Extension for Existing Water Borehole Registration – WARMA
The Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) would like to inform the general public that the deadline for registration of boreholes which is scheduled for 30 September 2018 has been extended to 31st March 2019.
The extension has been necessitated by an overwhelming response in the last two weeks close to the deadline and the need to register more boreholes. The Authority would like to thank the general public for their response in taking steps to comply with Statutory Instrument Number 20 (Groundwater and Boreholes Regulations) in order for the country to manage the valuable resource for sustainable socio-economic benefits.
To date, 10,106 existing boreholes have been registered and 93 Drilling companies have been licenced. A total of 5,152 applications to drill boreholes were made, t of which 15 were rejected. The full list of drilling companies will be published on our Facebook page today. The statistics given cover the current national status of the borehole registration exercise which commenced on 9th March, 2018 following the announcement of the Statutory Instruments.
Please note that the extension only affects registration of existing boreholes (Boreholes drilled before the Regulations came into being). Anyone who intends to drill a new borehole is still required to obtain authority from WARMA before proceeding to drill. WARMA will penalize anyone found drilling without authority.
The Authority further wishes to advise the general public that measures are being taken to facilitate easy registration and inspections of boreholes in the country.
